Armoy had a catalogued entry this year of 147 head, a slight drop on numbers from last year, there were 111 presented for sale with 94 sold
Mr Chris Lyons, Rocky Mountain Flock, made the journey across the border from his home in County Donegal to take on the judging duties this year
It was not until the ram lambs entered the judging ring that Chris found his male and overall champion for the day. 4456/W004 from Declan McKillop, Giants Causeway was the eye catching lamb to take the spoils, this homebred ram lamb which is sired by 2904/V001 Penhill Storm out of homebred ewe 4456/T045 Giants Causeway, sired by homebred sire 4456/T013 Giants Causeway was later cashed for 1700 guineas joining Alistair Christie’s The Fields Flock.
Reserve overall champion was also reserve male champion this was for the first offering in the ring from Alistair Christie, with his home bred shearling ram 3634/V010 The Fields, sired by Yore House Maverick 790/M001 out of homebred ewe 3634/P061 The Fields sired by Aughaboy Nutter 3970/N001 this powerful shearling packed with crossing blood on both sides found a new home with Messrs Brown, Ballycastle with the gavel falling at 1300 guineas.
Top price on the day was 2000 guineas this was for a homebred ram lamb from the Minnis North flock of D & C Ward, 5044/W001 is sired by Mistyburn 4691/T002 out of homebred ewe 5044/T002 sired by Tievebuaile Farm 3920/R001 he was sold in a two split to Kieran and Patrick McGrath, Caoramor and Michelle Wright, Mullaghwee.
Minnis North also had the second highest price of the day with their third lamb on the catalogue 5044/W007 Minnis North by the same sire 4691/T002 Mistyburn out of Aughaboy ewe 3970/R028 out of Temain 4342/P024 he was knocked down at 1750 guineas to join the Holmview flock of William Adams
