Ballinrobe First Sale – South of Ireland 14th September 2024

On  Saturday at the South of Ireland Bluefaced Leicester Club sale we had a fantastic turn out of sheep. It was a credit to all that showed sheep for sale.

Jake Hamilton of the Skeagh flock had the tough task of judging. Jake found his overall champion in Dean and Mairead Kerrigans Sunny hills flock pen with a tremendous modern and clean marked ewe lamb. She was got by last years champion lamb from ballymena Mistyburn S003 and a Temain bred ewe selling to €1550 and to the judge on the day Jake Hamilton.

Jake found his reserve champion in the ram lambs with a super powerful and great coloured lamb from John Morahans Woodview flock. A fantastic example of the breed, a real smart lamb bred by Skeagh S001 and a hombred ewe selling to €2500 and taking top price of the day, he found a new home with Aaron McGann adding this ram lamb to his growing flock.

In the aged ram & shearling class Jake put a Maskview bred shearling sheep in first place. A really smart and coloured ram with great character got by R004 beeches and a Maskview ewe selling to €1750 and topping the shearling trade.

Aged & Shearling class:

Top price €1750, 50 sheep sold to an average of €700 ( minus €170 on last year 15 more sold).

Ram lamb class :

Top price €2500, 100 lambs sold to an average of €730 (plus €50 on last year 10 less sold )

Female class:

Top price €1550, 28 sold to an average of €400.(8 more sold same average
