Carlisle BFL – Classy Lassies

A small but select catalogue was on show at the reformatted Classy Lasses sale, with some cracking sheep on offer and a good trade from start to finish.

Topping the trade was a young, sharp gimmer hogg from the Macqueston flock, full of style and breeding, along with a great skin and presence. She was the winner in the gimmer hogg class and placed Reserve Overall Champion by the judge, Robbie Hallam from High Birkwith. She was by the S6 Carryhouse, which has done well for them on the mules and the pures. Her mother is by the L18 Midlock and goes back to the old F8 Macqueston, the best breeding lines within their flock. Anders Brown, the star in the box, knocked her down at 3800gns to Messrs Luck, Barnard Castle.

The Hewgill flock enjoyed a cracking trade too with their pair of gimmer hoggs, which were much admired for their power and quality. Their first hogg was by the S1 Sealhouses, which has been producing the goods for the flock over the past few years. This one was out of a ewe by the Marriforth P1 tup and sold for 3500gns, selling to Messrs Bennet, Meifod. Its pen mate, by the homebred R38 sold for 2800gns to John Graham, Burnbank.

Robbie Hallam picked out a gimmer shearling from Midlock as his Champion. She is a strong, correct sheep, full of great bloodlines, by the Firth Super Ted, a son of Ted from the Smearsett flock and out of a ewe by the Kirkby Redgate H1, which has already bred females to £8000, and its grand mother is the full sister to the noted Knight Rider. This one, carrying triplets to M1 Riddings, was picked up for 2500gns by Messrs Fleming, Coulter. Another of its stablemates was bid to 2500gns too. This one was a daughter of the M1 Riddings and out of Midlock M86, a daughter of K4 Marriforth, and has already bred tups to £20,000. She was carrying twins to T3 Steel and went home with David Lawson, Gragareth.
