With a catalogued entry of 84 registered Bluefaced Leicesters numbers were down slightly on the year but averages were well up. With a busy ring of buyers trade remained consistent throughout the sale with nearly a 100% clearance.

Taking on the Judging duties this year was Sandy Craig, Walton Park, and he found his champion in the Laggan Park pen of W Lockhart & Son.

This was with their homebred  shearling ram 3768/T002 who caught the Judges eye the minute he entered the ring,  he is sired by 980/S002 Hewgill out of a homebred ewe 3768/P015 Laggan Park. The Judge stuck by his choice and took him home for £2000. Laggan Park’s pen of 7 shearlings  sold to an average of £1371.43

Reserve champion was the first prize ram lamb, a sharp homebred lamb brought out by Andrew McQuistin, Barnshangan 2884/V010 sired by 1538/G034 Midlock out of a homebred ewe Barnshangan 2884/L021,  he was cashed for the top price of the day £3500 heading home to Ardoch Farm, Castle Douglas.  The second prize ram lamb also came from the Barnshangan pen this was 2884/V012 sired by Blarnavaid 4244/S019 and out of homebred ewe 2884/N021 he sold for £1600 joining the Macqueston flock of Alec & Anders Brown.

Second prize shearling ram came from Mrs S Hamilton, Cairn Smiddy with her homebred ram 2637/T003 sired by Finniness 2554/R014 out of homebred ewe 2637/N017 selling for second top price of the day £3000 he headed to his new home at Sanquhar with D G & J D Walker.  The 6 rams offered from the Cairn Smiddy pen averaged £2000.

W Lockhart, Culdoach brought out a small but strong pen of shearlings, first in was homebred 4265/T002 by the homebred ram 4265/S001 out of homebred ewe 4265/R020 he was cashed for £2600 – the three shearlings averaged £1733

Ram lambs – 6 sold to average – £1533.33 – an increase of £626.19 on last year
