The pre-sale show was efficiently judged by Gareth Roberts, Gaerwen, Anglesey, where he tapped out the pen leading shearling ewe from Tudor Harries, Bonvilston, Cardiff, as his champion on the day at Hereford Livestock Centre on 14^th January 2025.

Sired by P1 North Burndale, who bred the first prize yearling ram at last year’s Buith NSA ram sale and is out of a homebred ewe, she sold carrying twins to S4 Kirkstead. After some competitive bidding she levelled at 2000gns to the judge Gareth Roberts, backing his judgement on the day.

Next best was another from the same home, this one again by the P1 North Burndale sire and out of a homebred ewe. She sold in lamb with twins to S4 Kirkstead for 1400gns and was the pick of D Kear, Kittle, Swansea.

The Bonvilston flock continued to dominate the sale with the next four high prices at 900gns, 850gns, 800gns and 800gns, selling respectively to G Roberts, Gaerwen, Anglesey; B C Cox, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire; D Evans, Abergele, Conwy, and Messrs Davies, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire.

The Bennett family, Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, with their Springwood flock, took the next best price of 780gns for a R15 Kirkstead sired shearling, out of a Blacket House dam. Sold carrying triplets to T1 Craig Yr Orsedd, she will now reside with Messrs Davies, Four Crosses, Powys.

The Bennett family had earlier clinched the reserve championship with their second prize shearling ewe from the same pen. By R1 Ashes and out of Robleston dam, she sold for 550gns carrying a single to T1 Elain to previous buyers Messrs Davies, Llandeilo Carmarthenshire.

Averages: 3 in lamb aged ewes £259; 21 in lamb shearling ewes £741.50; 5 ewe lambs £466.20 (Hereford Market Auctioneers).
