Mr Alfie Benbow, Borderland Flock
Hereford Bluefaced Leicester trade tops at 1450gns for the Bonvilston flock
A smaller but quality entry forward for this year’s Hereford Bluefaced Leicester female sale saw 17-year old Alfie Benbow, Llanymynech take to the ring to officiate as judge.
Having picked her out as a clear winner in the shearling ewe class, Bonvilston 2906/R034 from T R Harris, then went on to be overall champion. Out of a homebred dam and sired by a North Burndale tup, she sold scanned with twins to the 3199/R004 Leadburnlea who was purchased from Kelso last year. She sold for the top price of the day at 1450gns in a joint purchase to Judge Alfie Benbow for his Borderland Flock and his Grandad Phil Davies, Gornal
Two further shearling ewes from the T R Harris followed at 800gns and 700gns. Firstly, at 800gns was Mynach 4889/P009, bred by E D Griffiths and Co. She is by a Robleston tup and out of a homebred Mynach ewe. Carrying triplets by the 3199/R004 Leadburnlea tup, she headed home to Erwood, Powys, with J P Phillips.
Following at 700gns and winning the aged ewe class, was another bred by the Griffiths family in the form of Mynach 4889/P012. Again, sired by the Robleston tup and out of a Bonvilston ewe, she scanned with triplets to the Leadburnlea tup and was purchased by R Davies, Carmarthenshire.
Matching the 700gns price tag was the shearling ewe Mcffi 4414/R017 from Carwyn and Maria Richards, Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire. Out of a homebred ewe and sired by a Riddings tup, she sold with triplets on board to the £8000 Hawes purchase Temain S1. She was the pick of previous buyer J P Phillips.
Up next at 600gns was a shearling ewe from T J and L S R Griffiths, with a daughter of the North Burndale tup and out of a homebred ewe. She scanned with twins to R2 Espley who was purchased jointly with the Bonvilston family from the NSA Builth sale for £2500 last August and headed back to Bonvilston with E Thomas.
Two ewes from the Robleston flock of R A and R G Jones, Haverdordwest, followed at 550gns and 520gns, both of which were knocked down to G Norman, Carmarthenshire. First at 550gns was Robleston 2963/M057, a daughter of a Piel View tup and out of a homebred ewe, she sold carrying twins by the privately purchased Logie Durno 4425/S007. Following her was the shearling ewe Robleston 2963/R027, sired by a Cernyw tup and out of a homebred ewe, she scanned with twins to the Logie Durno 4425/S007.
