CROSS BARGAIN FLOCK LEADS HEREFORD BLUEFACED LEICESTER SALE

A small, but selective offering of Bluefaced Leicester females at Hereford Livestock Market saw the pre-sale reserve champion and first prize aged ewe lead the sale at 2100gns and a 100% clearance for the sale.

Young breeder, Oscar Elcock from Wantage, Oxfordshire, won the aged ewe class with a daughter of the Clwyd ram out of a Home Farm Blues ewe and having been scanned a single, she caught the eye of J R Lewis and Son, Norton, Powys.

Next best on the day and leading the call for shearling ewes at 2000gns was the pre-sale champion, one from the Bonvilston flock of Tudor Harris, Cardiff, South Glamorgan.

By the Church Farm sire out of a Mynach bred ewe carrying Robleston breeding, this one was offered having been served to Kirkstead S04, the 2025 Royal Welsh male champion.  Backing his judgement and praising the female for her style and presence was judge David Kear, Kittle Swansea.

Tudor Harris then dominated the sale with his run of females, selling his next best at 1300gns. This one was a Leadburnlea daughter out of a homebred female going back to the Myfyrian ram and again scanned in lamb to the Kirkstead ram. Taking this one home was multi buyer on the day B Nicholls, Parracombe, Devon.

Joining her on the trailer home to Devon with more from the Bonvilston pen was a daughter of the Espley ram at 1000gns and another by the Leadburnlea ram at 950gns.

Sale leader Oscar Elcock also had the second highest priced aged ewe on the day at 850gns with a maternal sister to his sale leader. This one was scanned for twins and sold to previous buyer B Nicholls.

Meanwhile, Oscar reinvested some of his sale earnings by purchased the top priced ewe hogg and first prize hogg, a Bonvilston lamb from Tudor Harris, purchased for 350gns.

Averages:

2 aged ewes 1548.75;

3 ewe lambs £311.50;
