Royal Highland Show

The 2013 Highland Show championship this year was from the Kildalloig flock run by Mary Turner, Argyll. The champion, a powerful three crop ewe, brought out by shepherd John McLachlan. She is by a Clennell sire and is noted on the show circuit, taking champion at last year’s Mid Argyll Show. Midlock took the reserve female championship with with a sharp gimmer shearling.

Judge Dennis Lumley was looking for powerful sheep with good conformation and skin, and his reserve champion reflected this. A powerful, modern tup from Jimmy and Wendy Bell’s Cottage flock caught his eye. This aged tup is homebred and by B41 Hewgill, out of a ewe bought from Hewgill which was the full sister to Z14 Hewgill, which is doing ever so well in the Hewgill flock. Jimmy also continued his winning streak, winning the group of three with three lambs by the Seamus Laverty bred tup E1 Orra View. The reserve in the male section went to regular showers Matt and Elaine Drummond with a shearling tup.
