After a rainy start to the day the sun came out for the start of Judging.  Our Judge for the morning was Mr Jack Kay, Hartside Lammermuir who made the long journey North to preside over the Crossing type classes this year.

Starting with the open section (the Turriff Show individual classes) Jack gave every entry a good assessment before making his selections.

Taking the overall champion rosette was also the female champion this was awarded to the first prize shearling gimmer turned out for show by Mr Jim Hunter, Glen flock.  She is a homebred gimmer 1464/S003 sired by M001 Hewgill out of homebred ewe 1464/P042 which was sired by 292/N001 Hundith,

Jim Hunter also took the reserve overall champion in the open classes with the first prize shearling ram who was also male champion he is 4346/S003 Dawyck which was bought out of Hawes last year for £1800 by Jim and son Sandy, he is breeding well throughout the flock.

Reserve female champion was a homebred ewe lamb from Mr J P Millican, Boroughbriggs she took the red ticket in the ewe lamb class.

Reserve male champion was awarded to the first prize ram lamb from Jim Hunter, Glen, this is a home bred ram lamb 1464/T004 sired by 1538/R005 Midlock out of a homebred ewe 1464/R012 whish is sired by 292/N001 Hundith.

Taking the red tickets in the aged ram class and the aged ewe class was Jim Hunter, Glen.  His aged ram was 1538/R005 Midlock who was bought out of Hawes in 2022 for £6,500.  The first prize aged ewe was a homebred ewe 1464/N029.

In the progeny classes Jim Hunter was successful in all the group classes taking all the first prize cards with a tremendous turn out of sheep

Jim’s overall champion progeny group was the first prize pair of gimmers this included the first prize gimmer 1464/S003 from the open class along side her full sister taking the championship they are both sired by M001 Hewgill out of 1464/P042

Reserve champion progeny group was awarded to the first prize pair of ewes, these were a pair of homebred ewes sired by 1411/L001 Duhonw.

The champion Mule Group also came from the Hunter family and was made up of three mule ewe lambs sired by 1538/R005 Midlock
