Turriff Progeny Show – Traditional Type

Scottish Region Progeny Show – Kindly hosted by Turriff Show

After a rainy start to the day the sun came out for the start of Judging.  Our Judge for the morning was Mr Ian Smith, West Bolton who was making his first visit to Turriff to take on the judging duties in the Traditional section.

Starting with the open section (the Turriff Show individual classes) Ian gave every entry a good assessment before making his selections.

Taking the overall champion rosette was also the male champion this was awarded to the first prize aged ram turned out for show by Matthew Seed, Auchry.  He is 3114/R011 Shrewbridge who Matthew bought out of the NSA Builth Wells Sale last year for 3000gns.  He is sired by Ashes 234/N003 that Sophie Harding bought for 6,200gns.  He was continuing his success in the show ring also taking the breed championship at this years Black Isle Show.

Reserve overall champion also came from the Auchry pen this was also female champion and first prize aged ewe. This was with a homebred 2 crop ewe by Cassington N021, her dam is a Myfyrian H001 daughter that was a previous Turriff show champion.

Reserve male champion was awarded to the first prize shearling ram, this was for a homebred ram 3910/S011 sired by 2784/P001 Whinfield exhibited by Rodney Blackhall, Sheeoch this ram has also been successfully shown this year having taken first prize at Banchory Show.  Along with his full brother 3910/S013 they successfully took the red ticket in the progeny class pair of shearling tups by the same sire, these two rams will be offered for sale at the Kelso Ram Sales this year which will be Rodney’s first time selling at this centre.

Reserve female champion was awarded to the first prize gimmer, a homebred gimmer 4425/S011 from the Ingram Family, Logie Durno she is sired by Low Arkland 1553/P002 bought for £3,500 as a lamb at the Carlisle sale.

Taking the red tickets in the tup lamb and ewe lamb classes was Matthew Seed, Auchry.

In the progeny classes it was the females taking the overall champion group this was awarded to the Ingram Family, Logie Durno with their first prize pair of gimmers by the same sire this was for the homebred gimmers 4425/S011 and 4425/S020 both sired by Low Arkland 1553/P002 out of homebred dams 4425/N035 and 4425/N037

Reserve overall champion progeny group was awarded to Matthew Seed, Auchry with this first prize group of three ram lambs by the same sire.  The sire is Shrewbridge 3114/R011 and all three of these lambs will be offered for sale at the Carlisle sale on the 11^th October, 2024.
