Killington flock leads the way at Exeter

The shearling ram, Killington 1925/V010, consigned by B C Dallyn, Parracombe, Devon, topped the Bluefaced Leicester sale at Exeter Livestock Market on Friday 18th September at 1500gns.

Sired by the homebred Killington 1925/S009 and out of Brindfield 3037/N045, he found his new home with R J and S A Rowe, Minehaed, Somerset.

Following this, at 1400gns, was Athay Vernon 5090/V016 from C M Athay, Cheddar, Somerset. He is sired by Mcffi 4414/S011 and out of Soflen 4433/P015 and was the pick of M Redd, Okehampton, Devon.

Three shearling rams then shared a price tag of 1150gns. The first being another consigned by C M Athay in the form of Athay Veer 5090/V005. He is sired by Mcffi 4414/N001 and out of Lower House 4765/L017 and now resides with G T J and A R Medland, Tavistock, Devon.

Next was Martin Grange 3585/V006 from H Havill, Newton Abbot, Devon. By Ashes 234/R009 and out of Martin Grange 3585/P037, he was snapped up by G and J Chorley and son, Chard, Somerset.

The third shearling at this money was Ashwin 4899/V012 from M A Ashman, Bridford, Devon. He is by Carrog 4532/K015 and out of Ashwin 4899/R002, having earlier stood second in the shearling class in the pre-sale show, he was the pick of D L Potter, Barnstaple, Devon.

The first prized shearling, also from M A Ashman, sold for 1100gns going home with his pen mate with D L Potter. This one is by the same Carrog 4532/K015 sire and out of Ashwin 4899/S001.

Ram lambs topped at 1150gns for the second prized Brindfield 3037/W003. Sired by Wildmoor 4628/V001 and out of Brindfield 3037/S043, he was offered from R Turner, Honiton, Devon, and sold to Barramoor Farm, Newton Abbot, Devon.

The pre-sale show championship was won by O M Francis, Okehampton, Devon, with his ram lamb, Cosdon 4932/W006. Sired by Spurrigg 4856/V001 and out of Hill End 4549/R019, judge of the day C Coaker, Newton Abbot, Devon, got this one bought for 1100gns.

Females topped at 700gns for Martin Grange 3585/V030 from H Havill. This shearling is by Ashes 234/R009 and out of Martin Grange 3585/N022 and was the pick of Little Frampton Farm, Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan.

Two further shearlings from the pen of H Havill made 600gns apiece. The first being Martin Grange 3585/V033, sired again by Ashes 234/R009 and this time out of Martin Grange 3585/R033 with the second one being Martin Grange 3585/V044, a daughter of Derwenlas 3822/S007 and out of Martin Grange 3585/N023. Both these shearlings went home with the female topper to Little Frampton Farm.

The pre-sale female champion, Athay Vikki 5090/V009, consigned by C M Athay capped at 550gns. She is by Espley 4024/R002 and out of Tyhir 4851/S020 being the pick of Rainbow Wood Farm Partners, Claverton Down, Bath.
