Ruthin Ram & Female Sale
25th September 2014
Mr J Binns, Llwygy
A splendid late summers day saw breeders of Leicesters, Beulahs and Mules head to Ruthin Farmers Market for a great show of livestock. The judge Mr Joe Binns had the job of judging the pre sale show where an ever improving standard of sheep was presented.
The overall champion was awarded to Elfyn Owen of the Cernyw flock for a great, clean and correct shearling ram. The judges decision vindicated as it achieved the days top price of 720 gns. The ram was sired by Howlea D3 which Elfyn and one of his sons Ifan, a great stock man in his own right, had achieved pre sale champion at Carlisle in 2013 and sold to the Cocklaw flock. Elfyn also won the ram lamb class in a great show of lambs.
Dewi Williams of the Elian flock achieved reserve champion of the day for a sharp correct shearling ewe. This ewe sired by Cassington D3 dutifully sold well showing plenty of presence and power in the sale ring.
Although a relatively small sale it was well supported with a good solid trade throughout. An improving standard of stock and dedication from the vendors showing that perseverance and realistic expectations can be rewarded with an outlet for stock to a local market.
