First up were the individual classes.

It was ladies day at Antrim Show this year with Judge Geoffrey Porter, from the Riddings flock who had made the journey across the water from his home in the Yorkshire Dales to take on the judging duties this year finding his overall champion in the yearling ewe class.  This eye catching ewe was brought out by Graham & Julie Loughery, Temain.  Homebred 4342/V48 sired by 4456/S003 Giants Causeway Armani, out of homebred ewe 4342/S045 sired by 4358/R001 Beeches Wingman. Wingman was purchased from Hawes in 2022 for £14,000 and has bred exceptionally well throughout the flock.  She went on to be reserve interbreed champion in a big show of over 800 sheep and 22 breeds. She is also et sister to 3 tup lambs sold in 2025 for 15,000gns,11,000gns and 5,500gns

Reserve overall champion went to a striking homebred ewe lamb from William Adams, Holmview sired by the 28,000 guinea Temain Topgun 4342/V001 out of a homebred dam Holmview 1337/S031

Finding success in the remaining individual classes were:

Christopher Brown, Ballygorian More, he took the red ticket in the shearling ram class with a bought in ram Knockstacken 3790/V005 which he purchased at the Ballymena sale last year as a lamb for 6,500gns.

Michelle Wright, Mullaghwee went home with the red rosette from the ram lamb class with a home bred lamb sired by Drummuck Hotshot 4367/S001 who was sire of the1st place lamb last year and progeny champion tup lambs in both 2024 and 2025. The dam Starbog 4373/S001 was part of the champion progeny group in 2022.

Graham and Julie Loughery found success again this time in the aged ewe class with Temain 4342/S045 sired by 4358/R001 Beeches Wingman. This ewe is the dam of today’s overall champion.

The last of the show classes was a group of three and taking the first prize was Michelle Wright, Mullaghwee with a group made up of 2 ram lambs and 1 ewe lamb who was interbreed ewe lamb champion at Ballymoney this year, all Michelle’s ram lambs will be offered for sale at the Ballymena export sale this September.

In the progeny classes It was Ian Montgomery, Mistyburn taking home the championship sash with his outstanding group of 3 ram lambs shown with or without sire.  The lambs are all sired by 4462/V001 Moneygran purchased in Ballymena last year. They will all be sold at the sales in the autumn.

 

Reserve champion group went to Graham and Julie Loughery, Temain with their group of 3 Hoggets shown with or without sire – they are all homebred et sisters by 4358/R001 Beeches Wingman, the dam is 4342/R070 Temain Rosie a previous interbreed champion at Antrim, and two of these were last years’ progeny champions. Their Full brother sold at Hawes to Willie Barrowman, Mid Knockglass for £10,000

Finding success In the remaining progeny classes were

Timothy Wray, Knockstacken taking first prize group of 3 ewe lambs – all by Knockstacken V001 – he was full brother to the champion lamb in 2024 – out of a homebred 12,000 dam all out the same ewe and all are being kept in the flock

Graham and Julie Loughery, Temain took first prize in the Pair of Adult Sheep Class with a pair of sheep sired by 4358/R001 Beeches Wingman they also took first prize with their Pair of Lambs, mixed or same sex by the same sire with a pair of homebred lambs by Temain Flash 4342/T010.

New for this year was a class for a pair of traditional sheep, mixed or same sex by the same sire and taking home the red ticket was young breeder Archie Henry, Caherty with a pair of homebred lambs sired by 1888/X001 Greenaton

In the Mule progeny section taking home the overall champion group sash and rosette was an outstanding group of 3 Mule Ewe Lambs shown with sire exhibited by J & J Mills, Ballytober.  The lambs are all sired by 4469/V001 Ballytober and he’s bred by last years’ best crosser T1 Ballytober who’s off the R14 Hewgill who bred the 28k Ballytober Hijack.

To round off the days Judging there was a young handlers section and this was won by Archie Henry, Caherty taking the overall champion rosette home with Jack Bell taking the reserve champion rosette.
