Scottish Progeny Show – Glenkens – Crossing Type & Mule Progeny

Glenkens Show – Saturday 15th August 2026

A new venue for the Scottish Progeny show saw Glenkens show, in the heart of the spectacular Galloway countryside, host the event. Numbers were affected by the Blue Tongue issue, with a few pens, from all breeds, staying away.

In the Crossing lines it was legendry breeder Martyn Archer who was passing judgement. Again, it was the aged ewe which was taking the days championship. This sharp ewe is no stranger to the show ring, winning here at Glenkens as a gimmer last year, along with the titles at Stranraer, Wigtown and Colmonell that same year as well as taking the champion at Stranraer as a gimmer lamb and standing reserve to her sire, the £6500 Happrew S2, a son of the £65,000 Riddings. The Mid Knockglass team also took the progeny championship with a pair of ewe lambs by the £10,000 Temain V4 bought out of Hawes. This son of Beeches Wingman has been putting a fair stamp on his lambs. One of the pair is out of the mother to the champion whilst the other is out of a ewe by the Happrew S2, so plenty of consistency there!

Taking the reserve ticket was the Barnshangan team, with a lovely gimmer, which has been picking up tickets left right and centre on the show circuit already this year, winning at Wigtown, Stranraer and Colmonell. She is a Highberries bred sheep with Andrew buying her privately off Neil and Mary Marston. She is out the Highberries show ewe P50, by the Goldenboy. She is by P56 Dawyck, a son of M1 Hewgill.

Robin Jardine from the Hardlands flock took the reserve championship in the progeny classes with a pair of gimmers

The Mule progeny classes were won by the Lockhart family, Culdoach, with three lambs sired by a tup they bought off Sandy Hunter, Glen, last year and doing a good job for them.
